Integration event for Iranian refugees

Last week we were pleased to run an integration event, in partnership with the Newcastle Jobcentre, for Iranian refugees and those who speak Kurdish Sorani.

During the event we were able to support attendees with informal English language development, learning about social and private housing, and communicating their work experience to prospective employers. Each attendee was supported to create a ‘Skills Profile’ that will help them to develop a stronger CV.

The targeted nature of this event created a welcoming environment and provided individuals with a safe space to access peer-to-peer support.

One attendee shared that he felt events like this would be helpful for other refugees, especially during the first few months after being granted the Right to Remain, as he often felt isolated after having to move out of accommodation for asylum seekers.

We look forward to being able to facilitate further sessions like this in the future to support our Service Users to begin their new lives in England.
